What are you interests?

Let's talk about your interests! No~ not what you like or what you do, I'm talking about political interest. An interest group is basically an organization where people share a common interest. This collective of people come together to protect and promote their interests. These organizations influence and work closely with the government especially Congress. These interests groups basically figure out everything, down to the nit and grit to just have the Congress pass a policy. Interest groups a fatal to influencing a collective of people. Many of these groups are sponsored by people who donate money which helps their ideas widen to citizens and influence more.

Let us take a look at an interest group!

Greenpeace is a moderately liberal interest group, just take a look at its name! A bunch of activists and supporters came together in 1971 to create Greenpeace. They work hard to address threats such as global warming, the destruction of ancient forests, deterioration of oceans, and nuclear disaster loom large. Greenpeace also cares about diversity and inclusion. A way for them to keep their commitment, they welcome the diversity of people, cultural experiences, and perspectives to learn from each other and promote environmental sustainability in social justice. Greenpeace does not ask contributions from the government or big corporations or endorse political candidates. As stated, "Our...2.8 million members worldwide provide virtually all of our funding through individual contributions." I'm telling you, these big interest groups low-key make bank.

Instead of just making inferences about an interest group by their name, let's continue to dig deeper into why Greenpeace is a liberal interest group. Under the 'About' page, you can find their mission statement.

It specifically states, "...uses peaceful protest and creative communication..." how liberal can you get! Peaceful protests are more effective because using violence it reduces public support. That's all interest groups want - PUBLIC SUPPORT! Political scientist Erica Chenoweth stated that "violence is the most reliable way to get rid of a dictator." Liberals don't like being controlled, they believe in "all for voices" and want liberty.

In the 'About' page you can find a quote said by Greenpeace's USA executive director, Annie Leonard. Leonard's statement is to inform readers on why their mission is significant and why it's exceptional to them. They also state, "...we have no permanent allies or adversaries. We ensure our financial independence from political or commercial interest." As stated before, Greenpeace does not ask for any contributions from the government, big corporations, and/or for political candidates. In fact, Greenpeace appeals to anti-corporate and anti-political (when it comes to candidates) liberal supporters which are basically their central audience.

Under 'What We're Doing' there is a page where they talk about 'Defending democracy.' Such a liberal title and topic! Everyone can be a little bias but this screams out full left wing. If you look into the article more it states, "A democracy flooded by corporate money, attacks on voting rights... limits the progress we can make on challenges that affect us all.." Their anti-corporate vibe creates a bias of extreme left wing and not accepting any future benefits, which can possibly help with any future environmental breakdowns.

PARTIES! I'm talking about political parties.

What are political parties? Political parties are basically a group of voters that are organized to support public policies. They aim to elect official stat will carry out the party's policy. It all seems to be very bias, they basically a point someone into a position that reflects closely or on the dot to their views. These groups want as many people involved. There are two parties currently in the US - Republicans, and Democrats.  Here is a quick understanding of what each party believes in:  REPUBLICANS - Business, conservative positions on social issues, about the concern of the size of government.  DEMOCRATS - Labor and minorities, the government can solve many of the nation's problems.  Let's go on a historic run Political parties didn't develop until the 1600s. It all started in ancient Greek, the pioneers created a democracy. Two separate groups that were separated were between patricians who were noble parties and plebe...

American Media and Politics

How does the media play a role in voting turnouts? The topic about the graph above shows where voters have seen news about the 2016 campaign. For example, 19% of the voters use Fox News as their main source. One trend can be about the type of media the voters use. Majority of the Trump voters use fast media such as radios, t.v shows and social media such as Facebook. If you take a look at Clintons voters, you can see that her voters use a wide range of media such as local newspapers. Another trend is the switch between Fox News. Fox News is the main source of information for all voters but a minority of the group in Clintons voters use Fox News as their main source. Fox News does show biases because during the 2016 campaign Trump did not believe in what CNN said. CNN only spat out what was considered false statements and lies about Donald Trump. CNN was constantly challenging Donald Trump while Fox News asked him easier questions to brighten his image to the voters.

"It's scary being a full on Liberal" - Not really

Hi! I'm from Washington state and I am currently a high school senior creating a blog about a project called 'Deconstructing Politics in America." I will be talking about my current political ideology from a survey that I have taken in one of my class days.   From the survey that I took in class ( Political Typology Quiz ), I realized that I was a solid liberal - crazy right! I didn't believe that I would be entire to one side but somehow I ended up skewing to the left side. By the end of the day, it was expected to come from me that I am a solid liberal. The questions in the short yet simple quiz ask you to chose a state that comes close to your view. A photo below is a peek of your choices. Knowing that I am a solid liberal take a quick guess which box I chose. If you took an educational guess, it would've been the first box. A solid liberal believe in austerer environmental laws and regulations that are worth the price. Immigrants today strength...
