"It's scary being a full on Liberal" - Not really

Hi! I'm from Washington state and I am currently a high school senior creating a blog about a project called 'Deconstructing Politics in America." I will be talking about my current political ideology from a survey that I have taken in one of my class days.

From the survey that I took in class (Political Typology Quiz), I realized that I was a solid liberal - crazy right! I didn't believe that I would be entire to one side but somehow I ended up skewing to the left side. By the end of the day, it was expected to come from me that I am a solid liberal. The questions in the short yet simple quiz ask you to chose a state that comes close to your view. A photo below is a peek of your choices.

Knowing that I am a solid liberal take a quick guess which box I chose. If you took an educational guess, it would've been the first box. A solid liberal believe in austerer environmental laws and regulations that are worth the price. Immigrants today strengthen our country because of their hard work and skills. Here is a list of key beliefs of solid liberals if you desire to know more.

Just cause I am so liberal, it doesn't mean that I don't recognize the other side. I took a look at the opposite side that President Trump approved to the most which were core conservatives. It's understandable that Trump, who is a Republican would support the beliefs of a core conservative.

Top: percentage of what Trump does like to work with.
Bottom: percentage of what Trump doesn't like to work with.

The difference between a solid liberal and core conservatives is their beliefs of what the government can and can’t do. Let’s take abortion, for example, abortion is more of personal liberty for liberals. Liberals believe that the government “should be kept out of the matter.” In simpler terms, liberals believe that people should make their own decisions and not let the government govern others thoughts. White evangelical Protestants believe otherwise, 61% of them opposed to abortion in all or most case, but not all evangelical Protestants speak for the whole right wing. The economic beliefs of liberals differ from conservatives, take a deeper dive into government debt. Liberals support the “Balanced Budget Amendment” to the Constitution which is a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution that would require federal spending not to exceed federal receipts. Conservatives believe in not being selfless, they care about America's problems and not neighboring affairs. Conservatives think that federal budget deficit and increasing national debt are affecting the current economic growth, 93% of conservatives are concerned about the debt, and 68% believe that it’s hurting jobs. Liberals aren’t always head-butting each other, but they do come in agreements when it comes to the environment. When it comes to environment liberals, believe in enforcing individual rights and responsibilities when it comes to protecting the environment. When it comes to conservatives beliefs in the environment, 75% in 15 states support financing renewable energy research. Liberals and conservatives may have different, but there can be topics that they do agree.

Being a solid liberal wasn't surprising because I live in a pretty liberal part of Washington, which you can guess, Seattle. There is nothing wrong with being a liberal in Washington especially on this side of the mountains. Your political views differ from others because of political socialization: when a particular group such as teachers, celebrities, friends help you grow your political view. When looking at my political picture, they were influenced heavily on my peers, teachers, and passion.

Peers: I have friends who are politic nerds. My school has such a diverse group of students who are activists. We all similarly have one idea, which is to become the future voices.
Teachers: My teachers educated me on current events, and their values and morals played out into it. The teachers that captured me showed compassion and sympathy which reflected back onto me.
My passion: I’ve been interested in sciences since I was in middle school, but ever since the junior year I’ve been in love with environmental science.
To wrap everything up, by taking the political typology quiz I’ve realized that I was a solid liberal, but I am very open to other opinions and their thought process. The beliefs between liberals and conservative majority of the time are polar opposites, but at times they can become into agreements on certain topics that relate to each. My political view majority comes from my peers and teachers.

  1. You did a great job inserting in graphs and data tables. You also show your personality in your blog (of how you normally talk) and great job explaining what it means to be a solid liberal.

PARTIES! I'm talking about political parties.

What are political parties? Political parties are basically a group of voters that are organized to support public policies. They aim to elect official stat will carry out the party's policy. It all seems to be very bias, they basically a point someone into a position that reflects closely or on the dot to their views. These groups want as many people involved. There are two parties currently in the US - Republicans, and Democrats.  Here is a quick understanding of what each party believes in:  REPUBLICANS - Business, conservative positions on social issues, about the concern of the size of government.  DEMOCRATS - Labor and minorities, the government can solve many of the nation's problems.  Let's go on a historic run Political parties didn't develop until the 1600s. It all started in ancient Greek, the pioneers created a democracy. Two separate groups that were separated were between patricians who were noble parties and plebe...

American Media and Politics

How does the media play a role in voting turnouts? The topic about the graph above shows where voters have seen news about the 2016 campaign. For example, 19% of the voters use Fox News as their main source. One trend can be about the type of media the voters use. Majority of the Trump voters use fast media such as radios, t.v shows and social media such as Facebook. If you take a look at Clintons voters, you can see that her voters use a wide range of media such as local newspapers. Another trend is the switch between Fox News. Fox News is the main source of information for all voters but a minority of the group in Clintons voters use Fox News as their main source. Fox News does show biases because during the 2016 campaign Trump did not believe in what CNN said. CNN only spat out what was considered false statements and lies about Donald Trump. CNN was constantly challenging Donald Trump while Fox News asked him easier questions to brighten his image to the voters.
